IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sophie Susie
(Beoglos) Manos
August 7, 1932 – February 7, 2023
Sophie 'Susie' (Beoglos) Manos passed away after a brief illness, on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 surrounded by her family. Susie was born on August 7, 1932, in Canton, Ohio, the youngest daughter of Efstathios 'George' and Saia Beoglos. Susie lived a life full of faith, love, family, and the Church community. She was a member of St Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church but also spent time within the Holy Trinity Church community. Susie was also active in the Daughters of Penelope, Philoptochos, and Koraes Ladies Society. Her time was filled with many lifelong friends with whom she made many wonderful memories. From her days as a "Carnahan Kid" until her final years she remained close to the church and its congregation, and her dear friends there. She attended Timken High School and graduated in 1950 where she was a cheerleader and member of choir.
An accomplished singer, Susie was invited to attend the Juilliard School of Music in New York City. However, she decided to stay in Canton for several reasons: her love of family and her friends, the Church community and a special young man, her one love, John Manos. Susie married John in 1953 and they shared a wonderful 60-year marriage. They travelled to their homeland in Greece, traversed America by car sightseeing and visited their children regularly in Atlanta and Pittsburgh. John loved to take Susie for drives, some long and some short, but together, on the way they went! Her love of singing remained strong, and she was very involved in the Church choir. Her days were filled family events, card and supper clubs and of course, church activities. She cared for her mother, Saia, and father-in-law, Bill in the family home for years. Susie and John were blessed with and raised three children: William "Bill" Manos (Lois), Connie Glew (Gary) and Maria Oster (Scott). She was a loving and devoted YiaYia to Lauren Freismuth (Jerry), Marisa Boyd (Josh), Alexa Glew, Madeline and Mackenzie Oster. Nothing brought her granddaughters more joy than spending time with their YiaYia. Later in life, Susie became a Great YiaYia to Liam and Noah Freismuth and Parker Boyd, all of whom would run to "YiaYia Sue Sue" and hug her sweetly at each Sunday dinner visit. Watching them grow and play was a highlight of her final years.
Susie was predeceased by her cherished parents Efstathios 'George' Beoglos and Saia Beoglos, her brother George Beoglos and sister Peggy 'Pene' LoDico. After her husband John passed away in 2013, Susie lived with her daughter Connie (and her family) in Mars, Pennsylvania. It was a special time for us all. She became an avid reader, reading her way through the entire selection of romantic fiction at the local library! Susie participated in weddings, saw her granddaughters have children and watched her great grandchildren grow. She had many holidays with her whole family and was a regular at Friday evening dinner dates with Connie and Gary. Susie was grateful for the love and support of her caretaker, Sarah Whiteleather, who became her close friend in her last four years. Sarah was a blessing to Susie and to the whole family.
Susie will be missed but her memory will always be with her family, friends, and godchildren. We were all blessed by having her in our lives. Hers was a life well lived and well loved.
The family would like to thank Father Nick and the members of St Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church as well as Father Nick and the members of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church for their support and prayers.
Family and friends will be received at St Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church on Monday, February 13th at 10 am. The funeral service will begin at 11 am with Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church or Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
