STEVE GEORGE BOZEKA, age 88, formerly of Canton, passed away on Friday, July 4 th in New Port Richey, Florida after a lengthy illness. Born in Canton to the late George and Dina (Dellas) Bozeka, he was preceded in death by his brothers Nick (Bozeka) Barry, Carl (Helen) Bozeka and brother-in-law Greg Varavvas. Steve was a graduate of Canton McKinley High School class of 1943. He was an Army veteran of WW II serving in the Japanese Theater. A member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church. Steve was a founding member of the St. Haralambos Men's Club and church president in 1973, president of the Hall of Fame Luncheon Club and an Assistant P/R Director for the Canton-Akron Indians. Steve retired from Sears after 30 years of service. He was a spotter for Monday Night Football from 1973 to 1985 working with Frank Gifford, Howard Cosell, Don Meredith, O.J. Simpson, Alex Karras and Joe Namath. From 1985 to 1989 he was a spotter for NBC Sports working with Bill Walsh and Dick Enberg. Steve is survived by his wife of 59 years Helen (Varavvas) Bozeka, children Stephanie and Bill Welker, Steve and Sandy Bozeka, four grandchildren; Crystal (Rob) Marx, Aaron (Marley) Welker, Anthony Bozeka, Andrea (Zach) Bartol, three great-grandchildren; Ariel, Christopher and Robyn Marx, brother Angelo Bozeka, sister Tula (Pete) Fostines, brother-in-law Anthony (Diane) Varavvas and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received on Friday from 6 to 9 pm at the Rossi Funeral Home and Saturday morning from 9 to 10 am at church. Trisagion Services will be held on Friday at 8:00pm in the funeral home. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 10:00am at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be sent to the Christopher Bozeka-Marx Charitable Fund FBO Christopher Marx,, C/O First Merit Bank, Canton, Ohio.
