Obituary

Steve Lemos, age 69, went home to be with the Lord Friday, September 29th following complications from an illness. Steve was born November 14, 1947 in Oinoussai Chios, Greece, to Panagiotis and Eftichia (Gianakis) Lemos. He came to the U.S.A., with his parents and sister in 1953, and settled in Canton. Steve was preceded in death by his father and brother in law, Xenophon Griveas. Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Rebecca, children, son Peter, daughter Eva (Scott) Paradis, grandchildren Malaina and Steven Paradis, who were the light of his life and greatest joy. He is also survived by his mother, sister Mary Griveas, nieces Stephanie (Mike) Nastoff, Eftihia (Marcello) Frustaci, nephew Jim (Amanda) Griveas, whom he loved like his own children, sister-in-law Debra Zerbe, brother-in-law Gary (Julie) Zerbe, their daughters Laura and Jenny, Goddaughter Chrisanthi (Yanakis) Tzannes as well as his extended family and cousins, all of whom he loved very much. Steve was a graduate of Lincoln High School and attended Kent State University. He worked at the Hoover Company for 36 years. He was elected to the Executive Board in 1978 and continued in that capacity with courage, dignity, and loyalty until retirement. As a Shop Union Stewart, he was a proud advocate fighting for the rights of his fellow employees, a tireless member of every negotiating committee from 1980, delegate to many conventions and AFL-CIO member. In addition to his family, Steve's greatest legacy was what he did for those in need. He gave blood regularly, collected money from fellow workers in order to distribute to those who were laid off at the time and even in passing donated his cornea so that another may see. Steve was a Navy veteran, serving our country proudly during the Vietnam War. Though he immigrated to the U.S.A., he was always a proud Greek-American and a strong voice for the rights of others. One of Steve's favorite places was Anna Maria Island, Florida where he and his family enjoyed many special trips through the years. He loved to fish and especially loved the ocean, which reminded him fondly of his homeland, Greece. Family and friends will be received Tuesday, October 3rd  from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church in Canton. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m., with Rev. Fr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating. Interment and Military Services to follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
