Steven A. Armatas, Esq. Steve passed unexpectedly from medical causes on April 23, 2024. Steve was born in Canton on April 19, 1959 to Alexander and Dionysoula (Gligoris) Armatas. Steve is preceded in death by his father, Alexander E. Armatas in 2014. His mother Dionysoula (Denise) passed away on April 30, 2024. Steve is survived by many first cousins and their families; Alex Sklavenitis, Angie (Sklavenitis) Zoumberakis, Stephanie (Sklavenitis) Kalikas, Maria (Armatas) Politis, George Armatas, Steve Armatas and many cousins and their families residing abroad in Greece and Australia; Stathis Armatas, Maria Armatas, Rena Armatas, Aspasia Gligoris, Dimitris, Vasiliki, Giannis, Antonis, Kosta and Athena.
Steve graduated from Canton McKinley High School with honors and earned a full scholarship to Harvard College and Harvard Law School from the Timken Company. He received his B.A., cum laude, from Harvard College in 1981 and his J.D. Degree, also cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1984. He worked for several law firms including Baker and Hostetler in Cleveland, Ohio, Buckingham, Doolittle and Burroughs in Canton, Ohio, and most recently was in private practice. Among other publications, Steve authored a law text book "Distance Learning and Copyright-A Guide to Legal Issues" and was a lecturer on law topics and served as legal counsel to several major universities advising them on a variety of contractual and intellectual property issues associated with distance learning. Steve served as the chairman for Harvard College recruiting in East Central Ohio. Steve was admired for his intellect and talent with all legal matters. He was a dedicated caregiver to his parents and he was most appreciated by his family for his quick wit and sense of humor.
Steve was a member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church. He had served as Chairman of the church's Endowment Fund Committee.
Steve will be missed by his family and friends but most of all by his godson, Steve Polychronis, whom he recently baptized. They are both named after the same ancestor and shared a special loving bond.
Family and friends will be received at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M.. Funeral services to begin at 11 A.M. in the church, with Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating. Makaria luncheon to follow at the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church.
