Papadopoulos
June 17, 1928 – January 18, 2022
Sylvia Papadopoulos, age 93 of Canton, passed away Tuesday, January 18. Born in Canton to the late Kyriakos "Peter" and Effie (Yossifides) Papadopoulos and being the eldest of six sisters. Sylvia was also preceded in death by her infant brother Chrysostomos, sister Alice Samartgedes, brother-in-law John "Dutch" Kotanides, nephews David Smith, Peter John Kotanides, and great nephew Nathan. Sylvia was a graduate of Timken Vocational High School. She was a life long member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, being a member of the Choir for decades, the Koraes Ladies Society, Holy Trinity Senior Citizens, and volunteered as Red Cross Gray Lady. Sylvia was the first woman hired at The Ford Motor Company in 1947 and retired from there in 1988 after 41 years of service as a secretary. Sylvia is survived by her sisters Evelyn Kotanides, Argery (Phil) Giavasis, Kay Smith, Tina (Jerry) Fortune, brother-in-law Steve Samartgedes, two God Children, Karl Kotanides and Lisa Georgiades, Uncle Sam Yossifides, and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received on Saturday, January 22, from 10 am to 11 am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with services to follow at 11 am with Rev. Fr. Nicholas Halkias officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Sylvia's name may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
