Theresa A. (Zirpolo) Alonzo passed away on July 9, 2016, aged 90 at Altercare of Louisville after a brief illness. She was born on June 30,1926 in Summitville, Ohio to Matteo and Mary Zirpolo. She graduated from McKinley High School in 1944, where she was a member of National Honor Society Chapter 18. Theresa worked in the financial industry throughout her 50+ year career, retiring from Merrill-Lynch in 1990. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 72 years, working to carry out the Sorority's purposes which include promoting life-long friendships, empowering women, and enriching women's lives. She was also a member of the Walsh University Women's Committee, and of St. Louis Catholic Church of Louisville. Theresa enjoyed the arts, golf, music including classic jazz, and her card club friends. She and her husband of 65 years, Philip J. Alonzo, also enjoyed gathering each Friday evening with friends for dinner at different restaurants. For many years after Theresa retired, she and Phil would spend the winter months in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, where they made friends with many people from around the nation and Europe. They also went on many cruises. These were highlights of her retired years. Theresa was a generous person who enjoyed helping various charitable organizations including Catholic Charities, and the Holy Cross Academy, which assists young people in getting a Catholic education. Theresa was beloved by the members of her family. She is survived by her husband Phil, many nieces and nephews, and their children. She was preceded in death her parents, and by her sister and brother-in-law Ida and Tony Bemardo, of Columbus; her sister and brother-in law Velma and Phil Scrima; and her brother, Michael P. Zirpolo, Sr. of Canton. Family and friends will be received at Rossi Family Funeral Home on Thursday July 14 from 6-8 pm. Funeral mass will be at St Louis Church in Louisville on Friday July 15 at 10:00 am., with interment at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in Theresa's name to a worthy charitable cause.
