Tula (Andrews) Skendelas, age 95, passed away peacefully following an extended illness, surrounded by her family. Tula was a daughter of Greek immigrants who came to the United States a little over a hundred years ago. She was a 1939 graduate of McKinley High School. Following the outbreak of World War II, Tula joined the war effort by going to work at the Timken Roller Bearing Company. After the war ended, she attended Kent State University. Tula was a lifetime member of the St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church in Canton, where she was an active member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society, the Daughters of Penelope, and the Senior Citizens organization. Tula was preceded in death by her husband, John Skendelas, and parents Peter and Evanthia Andrews. She was also preceded in death by brothers Anthony, Harry and John Andrews, and sister Pauline Gallus. She is survived by son Dr. William J. Skendelas and daughter-in-law Freda Skendelas, and grandson Stephen Skendelas of North Canton; son Paul Skendelas and daughter-in-law Professor Katherine Hunt Federle, grandson John Skendelas, granddaughter Katie Skendelas, and step-grandson John Paul Haynes III of Columbus; and son James Skendelas of Canton who was her caregiver for Tula's final years. The family requests that, in lieu of sending flowers, donations be made to the Saint Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church. There will be no calling hours. Private funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:30 in St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
