Obituary

Vasiliki (Vasilo) Sklavenitis

May 6, 1928-December 28, 2021

Our beloved Vasilo left this world on December 28th. She died peacefully at home with family by her side. She was born in 1928 in Fterno, Lefkada, Greece. She was the youngest of seven children born to Efstathios and Maria Armatas. She came to this country to pursue the American Dream. She arrived with her children and her husband Petros in the year 1969. She was widowed within a year at age 39 when her husband died of an unexpected illness. Imagine being in a new country without knowledge of the language and with three young children. She never dated, she never remarried, instead she dedicated her life to her faith and her family. She raised her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with heroism and grace. She knew no enemies and was loved by all who met her. She was everyone's Yiayia and one of the most kind, caring, and selfless individuals one could ever meet. She leaves behind her children Angie (Steve) Zoumberakis, Stephanie (Greg) Kalikas, and Alex Sklavenitis. Her grandchildren Erick (Caitlin) Zoumberakis, Peter (Brittany) Zoumberakis, Maria Kalikas, Artemis (Dino) Nikolaou, and William Sklavenitis were blessed to have her in their lives. Vasilo also had the blessing of many great-grandchildren-Steven, Eva, Aria, Preston, Brayton, Christian, and Alexandria. In addition, she leaves behind countless other nieces and nephews, none of whom will forget the impact she had on their lives. She was the matriarch of our family, our queen. We will miss her endlessly. Calling hours will be held at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church on Monday, January 3rd 2022 at 10 AM with the funeral to follow at 11 AM with Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating and assisted by Rev. Fr. Nicholas Halkias and Rev. Dr. Deacon Keric Shiepis. Burial will take place at Forrest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church.
