Obituary

Virginia Ann Haidet

Virginia Ann Haidet, (Chirumbolo), left this earth to join her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. Virginia, or Jean, as most friends and family called her, was born in Canton, Ohio on April 15, 1928 to Bruno and Anna (Torcasio) Chirumbolo. A graduate of McKinley High School, Jean loved life in so many ways. She found strength, dignity, and courage in her Catholic faith and family. Jean loved to cook Italian dinners for friends and family using generational recipes. She was an excellent baker of cookies and loved gardening and canning fruits and vegetables. She loved to read, spent time with friends playing games of dice and enjoyed trips to the casino. Being one of sixteen children, her family meant everything to her and was the focus of her life. A beloved mother and grandmother, Jean enjoyed making sure everyone was well fed. She was proud of her Italian heritage and had seemingly infinite stories about family life at "1800 Grace Avenue." She was blessed to have a life rich with her large family and many friends. Jean was always a giver to her sons and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by them. Jean is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Mary Ruffalo, Angeline Huge, Bernadine Milano, Teresa Morris, Katherine Hockenberger, Patricia Zirpolo, brothers Thomas , Paul, Valentino, and George. She is survived by sisters Carmel Vance and Betty Rice (Bill) of Arizona, brothers Anthony (Mary) and Julius (Stella) of Canton, and Frank (Polly) of Arizona. Jean is also survived by her friend and former husband of 40 years Raymond. She is survived by her sons Lon and Nancy , John and Kate, Victor and Diane, grandchildren Amanda and (Daryl) Phillips, Lauren, Megan, Emily, Alison, Jordan, Zachary, and Rachel , as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A funeral mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday at 10 am at the Basilica of St John the Baptist in Canton conducted by the Very Reverend Ronald Klingler. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart of Mary Cemetery in Louisville. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, June 14 th , 2013 at Rossi Funeral Home in Canton. The family extends special thanks to Dr James Schmotzer and the staff at Morningstar Oncology and Dr Steven Grossman and staff at The Compassionate Care Center at Aultman Woodlawn, for their affectionate and loving care of our mother. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Basilica of St John the Baptist, 627 McKinley Ave NW, Canton, OH 44703.
