Walter Sankovich, Jr. age 88 of Massillon, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023. Born in Cleveland, OH to the late Walter and Anna (Andrusko) Sankovich, Sr., he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Norma Jean (Simone) Sankovich, brothers George, Nick, Sam, Michael and Jerry Sankovich, sisters Amelia Mulligan, and Dorothy Johnson. He was a 1953 graduate of Timken Vocational High School and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Timken Company Steel Plant in 1985 after 30 ½ years as foreman of the melt shop. Walt was a member of the Amvets Post #124 and the Polish Club. He is survived by his children Tina (Terry) Alkire, Michael (Gretchen) Sankovich, grandchildren Theresa Alkire, Joshua A. Sankovich, step-grandchildren Brandon and Derek Burkholder, two great-grandchildren, sister Mary (Jack) Kutz, sister-in-law Joann Sankovich, and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 5 to 7 pm at the Rossi Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10:00 am, in the funeral home with Pastor Amy Downard officiating. Interment will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
