Yeona Marie (Simodi) Hales, age 69 of Canton, Ohio passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 21, 2020. Yeona was born in Canton to the late George and Frances (Proietti) Simodi. She graduated from Canton South High School, completed her Bachelor Degree at Kent State University, and earned her Master Degree from Akron University. Yeona worked as a Teacher and Guidance Counselor for Canton City Schools for 35 years and retired in 2010. She was an avid sports fan and rarely missed watching the Browns, the Cavs, and the Indians, but nothing compared to her love for the Buckeyes.

Yeona is survived by her children Natalie (Thomas) Voortman, Patrick Smaranda, Matthew (Catherine) Hales; six grandchildren Benjamin, Arianna, and Andrew Voortman, Merrick Smaranda, Chase, and Savanna Hales; sister Cynthia (Howard) Scheetz; and brother Jimmy (Joanne) Simodi. Due to COVID-19 concerns, family funeral services will be private. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George Romanian Byzantine Catholic Cathedral.
