Zella M. (McKinney) Kanam passed away peacefully on December 5th at the age of 93. She was born on January 1, 1931 in Newland, North Carolina to the late Hayden and Bell (Hughes) McKinney. She was the oldest of five children, three sisters and a brother. She married John D. Kanam in 1955 and they had three children. She and her husband founded the K Carpet Company in 1968, prior to that they had started several businesses together as well. Zella was known for her culinary skills, her crafts, her creativity and her dedication to her church. But what Zella was most known for was her love and dedication to her family. Nothing meant more to her than her children and grandchildren. She will be missed by many, but mostly by her family, who loved her so much. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John, her sister Kathleen Ballas, and brother Clarence Hayden McKinney. She is survived by her sons J. Duke (Marilyn) Kanam, Michael (Susan) Kanam, daughter Jacqueline (David) Regula, eight grandchildren; Hayden and Jack Kanam, Olivia and Marissa Regula, Jonathan, Natalie, Nathan, and Anthony Kanam, sisters Carolyn White, Angie Suarez, and dear friend Mary Ann McWhorter. Family and friends will be received on Monday, December 9th from 10:00 am to 12 noon at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church (1118 Cherry Ave. N.E., Canton) with services to follow at 12 noon, Very Rev. Fr. Michael Corbin officiating. Interment will be in Northlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Zella's name may be made to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church or the Stark County Humane Society.
