Alex “Al” Anthony DeGeorgia, age 92 of Louisville, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at The Gables of Canton with Marla, his loving wife of 60 years, by his side. Born in Canton on December 10, 1928 to the late Panfilo and Maria (Valentine) DiGiorgio, Alex was a 1946 graduate of McKinley High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean War.
Beginning in 1961, Al became a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in East Canton, a position he would hold for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1990. He then worked part-time for Finney’s Drugs as a delivery driver. He lived most of his life in Canton, before moving to Louisville in 2001.
Al was best known for his friendly and outgoing demeanor, sense of humor, and unwavering commitment to his family. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren as they brought him immense joy. He will be greatly missed by all.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Art (Velma) DeGeorge and Ray (Joan) DeGeorgia and brother-in-law James Crawford. He is survived by his wife Marla (Ring) DeGeorgia, daughter Debbie (Brian) Fink, and son Michael (Anja) DeGeorgia, as well as six grandchildren, Adam (Julie) Fink, Joshua (Nina) Fink, Kyle (Courtney) Fink, Sophia, Julian and Nadia DeGeorgia and four great-grandchildren, Asher, Luke, Ariel and Aurora Fink, with another great-granddaughter expected in April. Also surviving is his sister Mary Ann Crawford and several nieces and nephews.
