Alexander "Alex" Gonyias Obituary

Alexander “Alex” A. Gonyias, age 87 of North Canton, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024. He was born in Monongahela, Pennsylvania on February 12, 1937 to the late Andrew Gonyias and Mary (Somales) Katsilas. He was a graduate of Homestead High School and furthered his education at Penn State University. Alex was a die hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a season ticket holder for many years.

Alex is survived by his children Lisa (Bruce) Wilson, Drew (Kelly) Gonyias, Mary Jo (Bill) Lehman, and Jill (Tom) Zepp; grandchildren Mallory, Alex, Kasey, Justin, Jesse, Samantha, Matt, Zac, and Dakota; great-granddaughters Josslyn, Mila, and Cece; and his loving partner Theresa Baxter. Also survived by many extended family members.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at St. George Byzantine Catholic Cathedral from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Funeral services will begin in the church at 11 a.m., with the Very Reverend Ovidiu Marginean officiating. Interment to be held at Jefferson Memorial Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Alex's home caregivers, Christine and Sue, Crossroads Hospice, and his adopted family at the Inn at Whitewood Village.

Memorial donations, in Alex's name, may be made to Crossroads Hospice (3743 Boettler Oaks Dr., Suite E Uniontown, OH 44685).
