Ann (Vanezalos) Simatacolos age 90 of Canton, formerly of Chippewa Lake, passed away Monday, November 8th. Born in Wheeling, West Virginia to the late George and Athena (Queses) Vanezalos, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years John Simatacolos, sister Mary Nicholas, and brother Spiro Vanezalos. She graduated from Warwood High School in 1949. After attending business school in Wheeling, she worked for Aetna and Westfield Companies. She was later employed for many years as an educational aide for the Plain Local and Cloverleaf Local School Districts. Ann was an active member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church, participating in the church choir, Daughters of Penelope, Silver Liners, and the Ladies Philoptochos Society, where she was awarded the Outstanding Service Award in 2006 and a Women of Distinction Award in 2017. In addition to her church involvement, Ann enjoyed cooking, gardening, crafts, and especially spending time with her grandchildren, family, and friends. She is survived by her sons John (Cindy) Simatacolos of Lewis Center, OH, Jim (Christine) Simatacolos of Frisco, TX, grandchildren Eleni, John, Jason, Drew, and Alex, brother Jim (Mary) Vanezalos of Weirton, WV, sister-in-law Stella Vanezalos of Pickerington, OH, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm at the Rossi Family Funeral Home and Wednesday morning from 10 to 11 am at church. A Trisagion Service will be held at 6 pm Tuesday. Funeral services will be Wednesday 11:00 am at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial donations in Ann's name may be made to St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church.
