Betty L. Gross passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015 at VN Senior Care in Pahrump, NV following a 5 year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Betty was born in Canton, OH on January 10, 1927 to the late William P. and Gladys E. (Theiss) Van Horn, Sr. She resided in the Canton area until 1956 when she moved to Southern California with former husband, William Carl Lewis, Jr. and their daughter Cassie. Betty and second husband Robert H. Gross relocated to North Benton, OH in 1981 and she was a resident there until November, 2010. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husband Robert H. Gross in 1988 and companion Eugene Marinchak in 2011, brothers Robert L Van Horn (her twin), Howard F Van Horn, Sr., and William P (Vera Lee) Van Horn, Jr., sister Martha Lee (Donald E) Hilton, nephews Donald E Hilton, Jr., Billy Van Horn and Ronald D. Hilton. Betty is survived by daughter, Cassandra Lewis of Pahrump, NV, nephews Howard (Shirley) Van Horn of Surprise, AZ who were Cassie’s rock and strength through Betty’s journey, James (Suzie) Van Horn of Monterey, CA, Michael (Diana) Van Horn of Fountain Valley, CA. Richard (Tammy) Hilton of Canton, OH nieces Chris (James) Meade of Orlando, FL and Judith Hilton of Canton, OH, step daughter, Susan Gross of Oshkosh, WI, step sons Robert (Beverly) Gross of Mt. Juliet, TN, Michael (Sharon) Gross of Thousand Oaks, CA, Kenneth (Karen) Gross of Corona, CA and William (Linda) Gross of Littleton, CO. Also survived by brother-in-law Charles (Sarah) Morrison & family, sisters-in-law Shirley Teague and family, Tia Van Horn and special friend Karen Witmer of Pahrump, NV and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She loved to cook, entertain and was an artist in oil painting. Her greatest pride and joy were her immediate family, blended family and extended family. Family meant everything to Betty. Graveside services and burial will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery in the old mausoleum on Friday, June 5, at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements are being handled by Rossi Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or any charity of your choice.
