Dina (Destefano) Sprague, age 56, was joyfully received into the heavenly realms on Monday, January 9th surrounded by her family. Dina was born and lived in the Canton area, graduating from Timken High School in 1978. All who knew her feel honored to have called her daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, family and friend. Throughout her life she taught us compassion, generosity, faith and what love of family and friends really means. In the last two and a half years of living with cancer, she taught us the meaning of hope through her words and actions. It was a testament of her strength of spirit, as she embodied hope every day, inspiring us with grace and courage during the trials of her illness.
Dina's selfless outlook guided her spiritual work. She volunteered many years with the Social Concerns Ministry at St. Michael's Parish and in the food pantry at St. Mary/St. Benedict Parish. With a special love for children, she took her role to heart speaking of the sadness she felt for underprivileged families, and prayed for purging the inequality in life. Her husband, Bob, shares that Dina was the most loving and supportive wife and mother, and reveled in being her children's biggest fan, happily cheering them on in their sport activities. Some of the most cherished memories are their family travels throughout the country, and especially their visits to Venice Beach, Florida. Dina also filled her days as a proud vice-president of Lighting By Design, sharing the family business responsibilities alongside Bob, her partner of 31 years.
Dina is preceded in death by her father John, sister Stephanie, and her twin brother Dino Destefano. She is survived by her husband Bob, son Robert, daughter Stephanie Sprague, mother Mary Destefano, sister Annette, and brothers John (Mary), Nick (Debbie), Steve (Maria), and George (Averie) Destefano.
A special note of thanks is extended to the many family members and friends that so lovingly assisted in Dina's care, and to the Aultman Hospice and Palliative Care staff.
Family and friends may call on Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Rossi Family Funeral Home. A celebration of life mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 13th at Christ the Servant Parish, with Msgr. Lewis Gaetano officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dina's name in support of local charities.
