Dino J. Valentine age 89 of Canton, passed away Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Canton, Ohio to the late John and Adelina (Chiarucci) Valentine. He was preceded in death by his brothers Herman Valentine (KIA WWII) and Ervin Valentine, and sister Mafalda “Muffy” (Valentine) Simpson. Dino was a 1949 graduate of Timken Vocational High School, where he excelled in football and baseball. A Korean War U.S. Air Force veteran, where he served in communications and was assigned the additional duty of operating the Officer’s Club due to his civilian restaurant experience with the La Pizzaria. After his military service, he was employed by the Nickel Plate Railroad as a brakeman and completed his 45-year railroad career as a conductor with the Norfolk and Southern Railroad. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, The Unique Club of Italian business owners, and Glenmoor Country Club. He was the retired owner of the original La Pizzaria Restaurant. Dino is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Theresa N. (Tassoni) Valentine, children Carolyn Valentine, Louisa (Rudy) Valentine-Vuksanovich, Herman (Jennifer) Valentine, five grandchildren: Lisa DeGirolamo (Michael Weldon), Dino DeGirolamo, Nella Vuksanovich, Sarah and Armando Valentine, and many loving nieces and nephews. Dino was an exceptionally devoted family man who was and is so loved by his family and all who had the great fortune to know him. He will be dearly missed by all of us, yet as we mourn, we celebrate his reunion in heaven. “Arrivederci” (until we see each other again).
A Memorial Mass is scheduled for Saturday, February 20th, 12:00 noon, at St. Anthony/All Saints Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
