Dominic “Spud” Rex, age 79, son of the late Rudolph and Mary Rex, died on December 28. Born in Canton, OH, on October 21, 1941, Dominic lived all of his adult life in Stark County, much of it in the city that he loved, Canton. Dominic graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1959 and then proudly served in the National Guard. He met his beautiful wife, Linda, in the Summer of 1964. He was a member of Saint Anthony’s – All Saints Parish in Canton, and loved the annual St. Anthony’s Day Festival, held every year in June.
At a young age, he fell in love with the game of golf and was known for his long drives. But if you ever found a broken putter, or spied one in a tree…well, you know how that went! He also loved sitting at Atwood Lake and was very proud of his garden. He was known for his quick wit, easy laugh and charm. He also had a memory for famous quotes that he loved to share. For example, “Two things that don’t last long: dogs that chase cars and pros that putt for pars.”
He is preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Theresa Rex, and his in-laws Vernon and Cleo Penrod. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda (Penrod) Rex; his children: Julie (Greg Nettle), Jennifer Rex, Jeanna Rex (Jess Haines), and Ryan Rex; his 8 beloved grandchildren: Nick and Rachael Foster, Matt Foster, Amanda Foster, Tabitha Nettle, Elijah Nettle, Oscar Rex, Eleanor Rex; and 3 great-grandchildren: Brody Michael, Kaleb Foster, and Haley Lucille; and his siblings: sisters Tish (Joe) Bell and Victoria (Timothy) Petry, and brother Rudolph Rex.
