Dorothy Delianides Obituary

Dorothy Dolores Pappas Delianides passed away peacefully on April 18, 2023. She was the embodiment of love and touched so many with her kindness and warm heart. A wonderful loving mother, sister, grandmother, godmother and dear friend. Born on April 27, 1934, Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, Angeline Pappadakis Halkias (1984), father Emanuel (Mike) Pappadakis of Canton, Ohio (1948) and her husband Socrates Delianides (2010).  She is survived by her daughter Melanie (Bill Kirkos) of Chicago, Sons Steven (Los Angeles, California) and Phillip (Jeanette Coquioco) Concord, California and much loved grandchildren Sofia, Penelope, Dorothea, Eleftheria, Christos and Natalie; Sister Rena Cotopolis (Jim) and brother Manuel Pappadakis and dear aunt to many nieces and nephews and cousins. Dorothy lost her father at 13 and worked hard at many jobs to help her family and fund her college education.   No matter the challenge, she maintained a positive spirit and forged ahead, always thankful for every day. A graduate of Timken High school in Canton, Ohio and Kent State University where she received a degree in teaching. She was a passionate educator and helped to create the Occupational Work Education program (OWE) at Timken High school and also wrote a book on occupational work education. She was proudly elected to the school board in Norwalk Ohio where she served as president. Some of her fondest memories in teaching were during her tenure at the Krouzian Zekarian (KZV) elementary school in San Francisco where she was fondly called "Mrs. D."  Dorothy loved her Greek Orthodox Church and family.  She served as the superintendent of the San Francisco Annunciation Greek Orthodox church Sunday school and taught for several years. A proud member of the Daughters of Penelope, she served as chapter president in Canton, Ohio, San Francisco  (EOS Chapter 1) and Reno, Nevada where she received the District 21 Penelope of the Year award.  Her life was a true representation of the Daughters of Penelope's mission to promote Hellenism, education, philanthropy, civic responsibility, family and educational excellence. Dorothy was full of life, and brought much joy to all around her. She will be dearly missed but we are comforted knowing she is with her heavenly father and many family and friends who have passed before her. We know she is dancing around heaven and wearing something very bright and sparkly.  The life of the party in heaven, as always. May her memory be eternal. Family and friends will be received on Friday from 10 to 11 am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with services to follow at 11:00 am, Rev. Fr. Nicholas Halkias officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Donations in her memory can be made to Saint Anthony Greek Orthodox Church, Reno Nevada,  Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Canton, Ohio and the Daughters of Penelope, Elis Chapter 89, Reno, Nevada.
