Many hearts were left void on Thursday, January 28, 2021 with the passing of Helen James after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Helen was surrounded by her loving family. She was born the youngest of three daughters on November 9, 1930 in Canton, Ohio. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Ted James, and her sister, Sophie Catranides. She was a lifetime member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, a member of the Koraes Ladies Society for 65+ years, and a member of a ladies Pinochle card club for 45+ years.
Helen (Yiayia) loved holidays and family gatherings. Every opportunity she had to spend time with her family was important to her. She spent hours cooking and preparing for her company. She was known for her adorable, yet brash sense of humor. An avid exercise enthusiast, Helen loved running and swimming. Her greatest joy was going to the North Canton YMCA daily to swim. She ran in many races and always placed 1st in her age bracket, running until the age of 70.
Helen is survived by her sons Harry and Doug (Kristi) James, sister, Clare Stasin, and grandchildren, Nick (Brandi), Alex (Katie), Zach, Caroline, Callie, and Ryan and great-granddaughters Collins, Vivian, and Lydia.
Funeral services with social distancing and masks will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Monday, February 1, 2021 at 11:00AM with visitation beginning at 10:00AM. Father Nick Halkias will be officiating. Special thanks to Heritage Villas Senior Living Community and Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
May her memory be eternal.
