Irma D. Cappy 97, passed away on Saturday February 22, 2014. She was a lifelong resident of Canton and a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Roger Perrin, her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Brenda Cappy, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Camilla and Joseph Colette, her husband of seventy years Carl J, Cappy, and sisters Helen (Michael) Rocco, Lillian (Daniel) Gennett, Nora (Lawrence) Cook, and Molly (Cleveland) Lane. After completing the Cadet Teacher Training Program, begun in Canton in 1953 by Kent State University, Irma graduated cum laude and became a member of Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society in education. She went on to teach 25 years at Belle Stone School. During her career she had many accomplishments. One very special achievement was receiving The Martha Holden Jennings Award for excellence as an elementary educator. When Irma wasn’t teaching, cooking, or entertaining, she could be found playing bridge. Bridge was her passion, and she was a “Master” in the American Contract Bridge League. Her family nicknamed her “The Barracuda of the Bridge Table.” Sister, Wife, Mother, Aunt, Mother-in-Law, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Teacher, and Friend….She did them all well! Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, February 28, 2014 at 11:00AM in St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 726 Cleveland Ave. NW Canton, Ohio with Rev. Edward L. Beneleit Celebrant. Interment will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery. Contributions in Irma’s name may be made to St. Peter’s School or The Alzheimer’s Association Greater East Ohio Area Chapter, 70 West Streetsboro Street Suite 201 44236. The Rossi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
