Jack D Morehart
Age 90 of Canton Ohio passed away on January 16th 2016.
Jack was born in Canal Winchester, Ohio. He graduated from Canal Winchester High School in 1943 and served as president of his senior class. Jack graduated from The Ohio State University with BS and MA degrees and did post graduate work at both Ohio State and Kent State Universities in higher education administration.
Jack was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps. He has been a member of Post 44 of the American Legion in Canton, Ohio. Jack was a teacher at McKinley High School for 10 years. He then joined Kent State University in 1960 as director of the Canton Academic Center and as area director for the University. He aided in the establishment of academic centers in both Salem and New Philadelphia, Ohio. For 20 years, Jack was the Dean and Director of the Kent State University Stark Campus, also known as “the house that Jack built”. Some of his proudest accomplishments were starting the nursing program and post secondary program at Kent Stark. Jack also served on the Board of Directors for both the Canton Civic Ballet and Canton Symphony Orchestra. He was active in local sports and was inducted into the Fast Pitch Softball and Bowling Hall of Fame.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents Chester and Martha Morehart, who were both veterans of World War I; and by his Brothers Harvey and Paul Morehart, both World War II veterans. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Violet Jane, his children John Morehart, Jeanne Mahaffey, and Dave and Jenny Morehart, his “fine” Grandchildren, Morgan and Justin Molenaur, Jonathan Mahaffey, Kaylie Morehart, Coby Morehart and Carter Jackson Morehart, and great grandchild, Mason Jack Molenaur. The family would like to send their heartfelt thanks to the Cleveland Clinic for the many years of outstanding medical care that they provided to Jack, Dr. Michael Trimonia,and to Absolute Hospice for their compassion and professionalism. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 5 to 7 pm at the Rossi Family Funeral Home with Memorial services to follow at 7:00 pm, Rev. Barritt Durbin officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wounded Warriors.
