James Sherrod Obituary

James Sherrod, age 87, passed away peacefully at Aultman Hospital after a long battle with Alzheimer’s, in the company of his loving daughters on 8 June, 2021. Born in Midville, GA on 26 January, 1934 to Robert and Charlotte “Lottie” Sherrod, he moved to Canton as a teen. Jim married the love of his life, Donna Jean Borne in 1952 and raised six children. He was a robust man who loved life. He could build or repair virtually anything, and never hesitated to help others when they needed it. Jim loved boating, camping, traveling with his family, and his yellow Harley; he would often winter in Florida or California. He was a proud Teamster and drove for Consolidated Freightways for 32 years.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years Donna Sherrod; children Deborah (Michael) Barath, Diane Holstein, Cynthia (William) Weaver, and Jeffrey (Tammie) Sherrod; grandchildren James, Michael, Sabrina, Lauren, Amanda, Tiffany, Joseph, Trent, James, Ashley, and Ella; 11 great-grandchildren; brother Kenneth (Marge) Kohl. He was proceeded in death by two sons, James Michael Sherrod and David Sherrod, and brothers Robert (Sandy) Sherrod and Walter Kohl.

The family gives their love and thanks to the committed aides who cared for Jim during his illness: Billie, Marilou, Craig, Pat, and Evea. They also give special thanks to the caring staff at Aultman Hospital, especially Nurse Molly, as well as Aultman Hospice.

Following cremation, the family will gather for a private celebration of Jim’s long and fruitful life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).

We love you, Dad.
