James “Jim” Schiavone, age 88 of Canton, passed away Monday evening. Born in Canton to the late Carlo and Angelina (Tortola) Schiavone, he was preceded in death by his brothers Louis, Anthony Schiavone, and sister Mary DeMario. Jim Was a graduate of Timken Vocational High School. He was an Army veteran. Jim was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish. He was an avid McKinley football fan, and was a mail carrier for 35 years, retiring in 1988. Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years Josephine (Mercorelli) Schiavone, sisters Cecelia “Dolly” DeMario, Carol Edwards, brother Carl (Joan) Schiavone, brothers-in-law Nick and John Mercorelli, sisters-in-law Antoinette Gabriele and Mary Weaver and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received on Friday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Rossi Family Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., at St. Michael the Archangel Parish, with Rev. Fr. Benson Okpara as celebrant. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations, in Jim's name, may be made to a charity of your choice.
