Joseph P. Calabretta (Coach), age 55 of Canton, passed away Friday, October 6, 2023 after a hard fought battle with cancer. A life resident of Canton, he was a 1986 graduate of Jackson High School. Joey was the former owner of the Mayfair Restaurant. He began working at the original Mayfair Restaurant owned by his grandfather and later went on to reopen the restaurant on his own. He was an avid sports fan. He never missed a game or match of any sport and was always invested in the action from start to finish, enthusiastically cheering on his teams. Above everything else, Joey was a family man. He could always be seen attending his children’s sports and events, video camera in hand. If he wasn’t there, he was happy just spending time with his family, or his favorite family members of all- Mocha and Minnie.
Joey is survived by his wife of 19 years Lori (McFarland) Calabretta, children KateLynn Calabretta, Joseph K. Calabretta, father Joseph (Suzanne) Calabretta, mother Dr. Patricia (Rev. Robert) Burdette, mother-in-law Janet McFarland, brothers Robert (Jen) Calabretta, sister Jennifer (Brian) Bartsch, Eric (Ngan) Burdette, Dr. Dylan (Diane) Burdette, brothers-in-law Jeff McFarland, Dean McFarland, sisters-in-law LeighAnn (Gary) Thacker, JoAnn (Guy A.) Cecchini, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins including special nephew Corey Thacker and close friends Ryan Molder and Mary Atkins. He was preceded in death by his daughter Angela Calabretta, his grandparents Joseph (Mary) Calabretta, and father- in-law William “Newt” McFarland.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, October 13th from 6 to 8 pm at the Rossi Family Funeral Home with services to follow at 8 pm. In memory of Joey everyone is invited to wear their favorite sports attire to the service.
