Mary L. Edwards

1926 - 2021

Mary L. Edwards, age 94, born May 23, 1926, passed away on April 11, 2021. She was a life long resident of Canton and had an extensive work history as a secretary for Union Metal and Sugardale Provisions Company, followed by her 38 year career as an LPN. Mary enjoyed going to and participating in musical productions; she was an avid animal lover, volunteering for many years for the Animal Attic Resale Store which supported spay and neutering programs for Stark County's cats and dogs.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Edwards; daughter Nora; and son David. She is survived by her daughter Nanette, daughter-in-law Melody; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Mary's memory, to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or to the ASPCA.

Mother's Poem:

A light has gone from this Earthly place.

A Mother's lessons and council no longer heard;

replaced with her absence and its pain.

A life well-lived with purpose and grace,

remembered by her daughter with pride and the love left inside.

Although I long to look again upon your face,

I do accept that you are in a better place.

But if you can, look in on me now and then;

leave a little sign to reassure me that I am on the right path

I miss you, Mother;

but must be content to listen for the wrestling of your newly acquired wings

and place to memory all those special things that bind a mother to a daughter.

With reluctance, I've let you go to travel your new space.

So all that's left for me is to wait, till we meet again in that special place.

Love always, Nan

I remember her from LPN school. I believe we both graduated in 1971 from Canton City Schools Practical Nurse Program. She was very sweet and kind.
