Mary Scimager Burns Obituary

Mary Scrimager Burns, 90, of Canton, OH, passed away peacefully on April 5th, 2022, lovingly surrounded by her two daughters. Mary was born in Canton, Ohio to Primitiva and Crisantos Lopez on September 17, 1931. A Class of 1950 graduate of McKinley High School, Mary was a proud Bulldog and a lifetime supporter of her alumni. She was employed as a billing clerk for over 40 years at Republic Steel in Massillon, OH, and never missed a day of work.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of 49 years, George E. Scrimager, her second husband Robert C. Burns, her sister and brother-in-law Josephine and Paul Shinkle, her brother Tony Lopez, and her great-grandson Elliot Sirpilla.

Mary is survived by her daughters Marsha (Russ) Miller of Canton, Cathy (Greg) Sirpilla of North Canton, her grandchildren, Ashley Miller of Canton, Lauren (Tim) Sekula of Los Angeles, CA, Lindsey (John) Schmidt of Dayton, Erin (Chad) Todaro of Massillon, and Ryan (Emilyse) Sirpilla of North Canton, her sister-in-law Alice Lopez of Raleigh, NC, and cousin Beatrice Collado of Canton and nieces and nephews: Anthony, Linda, Mary, and Chris and their families.

Mary’s happiest memories were of when all her family could gather together. She enjoyed trips with her family from the Florida Keys, Seaside, and Lake Norman, to California and was always looking forward to the next trip. A devoted Grammy and Gigi, Mary never slowed down; she took every possible opportunity to dote on her great-grandchildren: Carson, Cate, Addy Jo, Eliza, and Owen. Mary took great care of and pride in her home and loved to be outside caring for her yard–she was proud to rake her own leaves and cut her own grass until the age of 88!

Private funeral services were held on April 13th at Rossi Family Funeral Home. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Aultman Hospice and Bethany Nursing Home for their devoted and loving care.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always. Rest in peace, you card shark.
