We are saddened to announce the unexpected passing of our loving husband, beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend. Michael David Demchak was born in Canton, Ohio on February 3, 1952. Michael grew up on Plain Avenue in Canton and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1970, Bowling Green State University in 1974, and The University of Toledo College of Law in 1977. Michael practiced law in Canton for forty-six years. Most of those years were spent in private practice and with the office of Coury, Burns, Demchak and Associates.
Michael’s Catholic faith was the center of his life. He was an active member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. There, he was a Eucharistic minister, a couples discerning marriage counselor, an RCIA instructor, and was habitually involved with various groups and causes within the church. Michael was a loyal Notre Dame football and Cleveland sports fan. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the past few years semi-retired in Sarasota, Florida where his sons, sisters, and extended family reside.
Michael is survived by his devoted and loving wife of forty-two years, Zana (Shaheen) Demchak. She was the love of his life, and his passing has left her broken hearted. Mike loved being a husband and Dad—his love for God and his family was unconditional. His passion in life was to help and counsel friends and family. He supported and devoted a significant amount of time to The Crisis Pregnancy Center and EWTN Catholic Radio Network.
He is survived by his wife, Zana; sons, David and Chuck; sisters, Barbara Johanning (Tom), Carol Shori; numerous nieces and nephews; and mother-in-law Betty Shaheen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Anne Demchak, and his sister Beverly Kastein.
Family and friends will be received at the Rossi Family Funeral Home on Monday, August 28, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. The family will also be receiving on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11 a.m. in the church, with Rev. Fr. Benson Okpara as celebrant. Entombment to follow at North Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to EWTN Catholic Radio Network or St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
