Nick Amanatides age 88 of Canton, passed away early Monday morning. Born in Canton to the late James and Despina (Karasarides) Amanatides, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Merle (Hunt) Amanatides, son-in-law Dennis Miller, and brother George Aman. Nick was a 1951 graduate of McKinley High School and an Army veteran. He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Men's Club of both Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and St. George Serbian Orthodox Church. He retired in 1988 from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years as a letter carrier. He was a past-president of the National Association of Letter Carriers. Nick enjoyed getting together with his Belden Grade School classmates, his friends at McDonald's, and watching sports. He is survived by his children Barbara Amanatides, Georgene (Paul) Forrest, Steve (Maria) Amanatides, Dorothy Burkett, Sally Miller, Charles (Hazel) James, Rose Ann Monnot, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 10 to 11 am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with services to follow at 11:00 am, Rev. Fr. Nicholas Halkias officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
