Robert Sirpilla Obituary

Robert E. “Bob” Sirpilla, 92, died on December 25, 2015 at his Canton home. Bob lived all of his life in Canton, where he reared four children with Marie, his wife of 67 years. He was a World War II veteran, carpenter, builder, golfer and backyard gardener. Bob was born on June 11, 1923 and graduated in the Class of 1942 from Timken High School, where he was a star football player. He served proudly as a firefighter in the Army Air Corps in England. After the war, he built homes alongside his brother and father at Sirpilla Builders. In retirement, Bob delighted in driving the local streets to point out the houses he had built. Bob was a generous and loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, who brought warmth and humor to all. He loved visiting friends and family and always offered sincere counsel and aid, without need for recognition. Bob was a parishioner for over 60 years at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Marie (Palombo); his children—Cindy (Jim) Barr of Maryland, Linda (Kevin) Kopan of Canton, Albert of Canton, and Barbara (Richard) Tschudy of New Philadelphia as well as by eight grandchildren—James, Matthew and Sarah Barr; Nathan Kopan; Annie Landry; Julia Wright; and Jonathan and Elias Tschudy—eight great-grandchildren and dozens of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Bob also is survived by his sister Doris Giampaoli of Virginia and his sister-in-law Marie Sirpilla of Florida. He was predeceased by his brother, Jim, and by his parents, Patsy and Mary (Cinson) Sirpilla. The family will receive visitors at Rossi Funeral Home on Monday, January 4, 2016 from 5-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Christ the Servant Parish at Our Lady of Peace Church with Msgr. Gaetano officiating. Internment will be at a later date, and family will be notified. The family would like to thank Mercy Medical Center Hospice, family, friends, and neighbors for their assistance and thoughtfulness.
