SABATINO “SAM” V. PENTELLO, age 95 of Canton, passed away Thursday morning after a brief illness. Sam was a true gift to his family and everyone who knew him, and he will be greatly missed. Born in Canton to the late Frank and Louisa (Lassafare) Pentello he was preceded in death by his wife Rose, to whom he is now reunited in heaven after his 47-year marriage on earth, and brothers Roger and James. He was a graduate of McKinley High School and an Army Air Force veteran of WW II. Sam was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church where he served for many years as an usher. He was president of the Milk and Ice Cream Union for 12 years, president of St. Joseph Federal Credit Union for 12 years, a 40-year member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree and a 50-year member of the Order of Franciscans Secular. He retired from Superior Dairy in 1980 after 41 years of service. Sam was an avid bowler, golfer, bocce player and card player, and loved sharing time, coffee and stories with his family and many friends. He is survived by his children James V. (Nancy) Pentello of Greentown, Christine L. (Robert) Boyd of Jackson Twp., Thomas F. (Coleen) Pentello of Jackson Twp., Very Rev. Richard J. Pentello pastor of St. Patrick Church in Kent, Joseph F. (Beverly) Pentello of Jackson Twp., 11 grandchildren; James II, Tami, Denise, Melissa, Michael, Anthony, Amie, Kelly, Danielle, Emily, Matthew and 14 great-grandchildren. Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Rossi Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with Very Rev. Richard J. Pentello presiding. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Sam's name may be made to the Order of Franciscans Secular or Sancta Clara Monastery c/o the Pentello family.
