SADIE ELLIS KANNAM

Sadie Ellis Kannam age 95, passed away on Saturday March 4, 2023 after a short illness.

Sadie graduated from Homestead High in Homestead, PA. She was employed at Gimbels department store in downtown Pittsburgh, PA. for sixteen years until she met and was courted by her late husband Jim. They were married for 52 years. They have two sons Jim(Paula) and Tom, one wonderful much loved grandson Austin.

She was an active member of St. George and Holy Cross Antiochian Orthodox Churches in Canton. She was strong in her Orthodox faith. She was a hard worker at the church. Involved in many activities, choir, Sunday School teacher, Middle East Dinners, Midwest Region Church Affiliations, Ladies Societies, Bible Study,and Book Club. In 2018 she was presented The Archdiocese Meritorious Service Award. One of the highest awards in the church.

Everyone that met Sadie loved Sadie. So sweet, honest, humble, caring, giving. Our angel on earth.

She is survived by her two sons Jim(Paula) and Tom. One much loved grandson Austin. She is also survived by two sisters Diana Portillo and Sally Degenkolb and one brother Tom Ellis, many special nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her late husband James, her parents Sarah and Albert Ellis.

Family and Friends may be received at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, (1118 Cherry Ave. NE., Canton, OH. 44704.) on Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 9:30am to 11:00am with Service at 11:00am. With Very Rev. Fr. Michael Corbin officiating. Internment will be in West Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George Antiochian Church.
