Sister Mercedes Baksa, (nee Julia Agnes Baksa) died peacefully at Regina Health Center on May 14, 2014. Born in Lynch, Kentucky, the youngest of twelve children, to George and Anna Baksa, she entered Sancta Clara Monastery of Canton in 1953, following her desire to embrace a cloistered vocation among the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration. She made her vowed commitment on October 27, 1956, and celebrated 50 years of faithful service before passing to her eternal reward. She was a dedicated worker who especially enjoyed carpentry and working with plants. She had an unforgettable smile and was always eager to be of assistance. Her final years at Regina Health Care were quiet ones, with no indications of particular health issues. Her simple request to “go home to God” was answered the day she asked for it, upon which she slipped away with the simplest ease. May she rest in eternal peace. Wake will be at Sancta Clara Monastery, May 19, 2-4 pm and May 20, 10:30-11:15 am, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am celebrant: Father Thomas Cebula. Interment at the Monastery Cemetery.
