Tina M. (Mata) Cugini, age 62 of Canton, passed away Tuesday afternoon. Born in Canton to the late Louis and Elvira “Tiny” (Corsi) Mata, she was a 1976 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School. Tina was a lifelong member of St. Anthony/All Saints Parish, Miraculous Medal Sodality, and S.O.A.R. St. Anthony's always held a special place in her heart. Throughout her life, Tina would help clean the altar, play her guitar at Mass, was a member of the cheer squad, folded hundreds of pizza boxes for the monthly bake sales, and served at the St. Anthony Feast Day. Tina made this her parish home for her entire life, through all of the sacraments of the church for herself, her husband, and her son. She always reminded her loved one's that things happen in "God's timing."
She retired from Aultman Hospital in 2018, after 38 years of service in the departments of respiratory and radiology. Tina often reflected on all of the wonderful people that she worked with and waited on. Tina is survived by her husband of 35 years Raymond “Tony” Cugini, son and daughter-in-law Christopher and Abby Cugini, sisters Kathy Mata and Sheila Mata, loving uncle Tony Corsi, special friend Barb Marteney, and grand dog Winnie.
Tina loved her family and friends fiercely. Her main hobby was caring for her family through delicious meals, a phone call to check in, cards for every occasion, and hugs full of love. Her friends and family will remember her most for her quick wit, great story telling, and that spunk only an Italian woman could have.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Kevin Hill, Dr. Jonathon Congeni, Dr. Adarsh Vennepureddy, Dr. Suzan Cheng, MICU at Aultman Hospital and Aultman Compassionate Care Center for all their loving care.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the Rossi Family Funeral Home. Memorial service to begin at noon. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date in Calvary Cemetery. If you would like to contribute, memorial donations may be made to Raymond A. Cugini, C/O the Rossi Family Funeral Home, for a memorial bench in Tina's honor.
