Virginia J. Massouh Obituary

On March 7, 2024 Virginia (Ginny) Jacox Massouh went to the Lord after suffering nine years with Alzheimer’s disease. Born February 11, 1943 in Rochester, NY, she attended Penfield High School and then Hiram College in Ohio.

Ginny met Michael Massouh at Hiram, and the two were married in 1965. She took over his job in the Admissions office, and the couple moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1966, where she worked in Admissions at Case Western Reserve University. She also worked as a children’s librarian in Cleveland, keeping index cards of her favorite children’s books for years to come.

The couple moved to Chadwicks, NY, where they began their family. Benjamin, Andrew and Theodora were all born in upstate New York. Ginny and Michael moved the family to Brookline, MA in 1980, where their youngest son Luke was born.

Many years were spent in Holden, MA where Ginny worked as church secretary for two Episcopal churches. She joined the P.E.O. Sisterhood and served as President of her local group several times. Ginny and Michael moved to Ligonier, PA in 2000, where Ginny was the event coordinator at the Antiochian Village Conference Center.

She and her husband settled in Florida in 2005, and she became the church secretary at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church and was active with the women’s group there.

She loved to sing, cook, read, write, bake and cheer for the Red Sox. She was an incredible knitter and liked to sew. She loved walking in nature and could identify birds by their songs (a skill learned from her father). She enjoyed waterskiing, swimming and canoeing at her family’s summer home on North Lake in the Adirondacks. She was dedicated to her children and lit up around her grandchildren. She embodied warmth, love and comfort to her family.

She was deeply loved by all who met her, including the staff at Seasons Belleair Memory Care in Belleair, Florida, where she spent her last years. She had a special bond with her caretaker Cathy Talbot, who took Ginny on long walks and was a fierce advocate for her.

She is survived by her sister Christine (Kathleen Mountain), her sister-in-law Susan, her nephew David and her children Benjamin, Andrew (Amy), Theodora and Luke (Sarah), with four grandchildren: Zachary, Solomon, Asa and Vivian. She will join her parents, Ralph and Florence Jacox, as well as her brother Mark and her beloved dog Nicky, who all preceded her in death.

She will have two services in the next two weeks. Her wake and funeral in Florida will be held Wednesday, March 13th at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Pinellas Park at 10am.

Her wake in Canton, Ohio will be held at the Rossi Family Funeral Home on March 22nd from 6-8pm. Her funeral will be at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Canton, Ohio on March 23rd at 10am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the P.E.O. Sisterhood or St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Pinellas Park in Ginny’s honor.
